There is a huge gap between the state of the art of health care, which is available in urban areas and developed countries, and the kind of healthcare services available to the rural population in developing countries. Many people in poorer societies suffer because of unavailability of simple and standard medical facilities and diagnostics.
Neurosynaptic Communications plans to bridge this gap partially by creating products that will help provide access to basic healthcare facilities to the rural population. Towards this end, the TeNeT Group and Neurosynaptic have developed an affordable telemedicine solution, which includes a Remote Diagnostic Kit developed by Neurosynaptic. The kit can be installed at villages and other remote locations, which have Internet connectivity. The doctor, who is present in a different location (maybe in a city), and the patient at the remote location, are connected to each other over a video conferencing link.
The Remote Diagnostic Kit can measure basic physiological parameters like Temperature, Non-invasive Blood Pressure, Pulse Rate and multi-channel ECG. It also has an Electronic Stethoscope to capture sounds from the chest and back of the patient. Complete software is provided for the doctor to remotely control the kit and for measurements to be sent to the doctor. There is a central database to store all patient records and history.
